Brentford Women’s First Team made history on Sunday afternoon making their first appearance at the Gtech Community Stadium and setting the record for the highest attendance ever at a tier six women’s game.

With Club captain Mollie Holmes unfortunately being forced to watch from the sidelines due to a hamstring injury, vice-captain Troth, who has been at the club since 2014 had the honour of walking the side out onto the Gtech pitch for the first time.

Reflecting on her experience, Troth explained: “This was such a big moment for me especially because I have been at the club for so long, I cried some happy tears at the end of the match.”

Troth was influential throughout for the Bees and played a huge role in two of the goals, helping her side come away 4-2 winners against Watford Ladies Development.

After going into half-time a goal down, the 24-year-old helped her side get the equaliser on 48 minutes as her flicked-on header from a Jodie Reid corner came off the visitor’s defender before finding the back of the net.

Speaking on the goal, Troth said: “Karleigh (Osborne) told us at half-time to keep calm and the goals will come because we did have a few chances in the first half but unfortunately, they didn’t go in.

“Eventually we managed to score, I’ll let Jodie (Reid) claim the goal from her corner, I got an assist at the end so I will take that.”

The midfielder’s exquisite pass which found Eleonora Cottrell who cut in from the left side of the box and smashed the ball past the away team’s goalkeeper, sealed off a perfect day for Troth and her teammates.

Troth labelled the victory as ‘amazing’ with the result taking the First Team to the top of the London South East Regional Women’s Football League Division One North.

With 5,116 in attendance the record for the highest gate at a women’s tier six fixture was broken, adding to what was an unforgettable day for the Women’s First Team.

Crowd number

“The atmosphere was crazy, I remember at first we did one good pass and everyone was cheering so loud, said Troth.

“After the first 20 minutes we got used to all the support and it gave us real momentum and a push to get our goals.

“Hopefully this occasion can help attract more people down to our games now, I would love to have this feeling again.”
