Brentford's Premier League fixture against Southampton has been rearranged. The game was due to take place on Saturday 18 December but was postponed by the Premier League Board. It will now take place on Tuesday 11 January and will kick-off at 7.45pm.
Brentford FC requested the game be postponed in December after a rise in the number of players and staff in our First Team group testing positive for COVID-19. Those games are being rearranged by the Premier League when the schedule allows. Our game at home to Manchester United was also postponed in December and a new date for that will be announced when confirmed.
All tickets for Brentford fans for the original match were sold. Those tickets are still valid. Information on refunds for those who need them will follow shortly.
This match was among many fixture changes announced by the Premier League this afternoon. Three matches have been rearranged for 11 and 12 January and games have been selected for TV coverage on the weekend of Saturday 19 February and Saturday 26 February. Brentford's matches away to Arsenal and at home to Newcastle United on those weekends have not been chosen for live coverage. A full list of the fixture changes can be seen on the Premier League website here.
Brentford's last visit to Southampton was just over a year ago. The Bees won 2-0 in a Carabao Cup Second Round tie with Josh Dasilva and Christian Nørgaard on the score sheet. Brentford eventually reached the Semi-Final.
That was Brentford's fourth trip to Southampton in the past 15 years and they have not lost any of them. The Bees took four points from two League One fixtures in 2009 and 2010 and drew an FA Cup Fifth Round tie in 2005. Southampton won two and drew one of the three games at Griffin Park in that time and won both legs of a League Cup tie in 1997. This will be the first top flight meeting between the teams.
