This January sees Brentford FC commemorate a special anniversary marking 50 years since supporters, players, and staff fought off attempts by Queens Park Rangers to buy Griffin Park and close down the club.

On 19 January 1967, news broke that QPR had entered into secret negotiations with then-Brentford Chairman Jack Dunnett to buy Brentford out of Griffin Park and end the club’s 78 year existence. Over the next two months players, club staff, and supporters worked furiously to keep the club alive, raising more than £8,500 (£110,000 nowadays) to buy back the club from those who wanted to see it closed.

To commemorate this anniversary, we are producing a documentary telling the story of that turbulent time through the eyes of those in the middle of it. Filming will take place at Griffin Park between 2pm and 5pm on the afternoon’s of Friday 16 December and Friday 6 January. Filming will be done in one hour slots on a first come first served basis, and fans can be interviewed as individuals or as a group.
