Brentford full-back Dominic Thompson has joined Blackpool on a permanent transfer, for an undisclosed fee.

The 21-year-old travelled to join the Sky Bet Championship side this morning and has now completed his move after three years in West London.

Phil Giles, Brentford FC Director of Football, said: “We have added to our options at full-back this summer, which was likely to reduce the opportunity for Dom to play Premier League games for us.

“He is at the stage of his career where to continue his development he needs to be playing every week. He has had a couple of good loan moves and when Blackpool came in for a permanent transfer we didn’t want to stand in his way. We all wish Dom all the best for his future career.”

Beginning his career at Arsenal, Dom spent seven years in The Gunners’ academy before moving to Brentford in August 2019. He made five appearances in his first season in West London, serving primarily as back-up to Rico Henry on the left side of defence. The following season he played nine times before heading out on loan to Swindon Town.

At Swindon, he played 25 times in League One but couldn’t help the club escape relegation to the fourth tier.

He returned to Brentford after the squad achieved promotion to the Premier League and made his top flight debut on Boxing Day against Brighton and Hove Albion.

He also played against Manchester City a few days later and notched up three cup appearances in the first half of last season before agreeing another loan switch. This time, he joined League One outfit Ipswich Town until the end of the 2021/22 season and made 17 appearances during his time at Portman Road as The Tractor Boys finished 11th in the table.
