All at Brentford Football Club were saddened to hear of the death of legendary former player Tommy Higginson.

Tommy died yesterday, Sunday July 22, at the age of 75.

The Scot joined Brentford from Kilmarnock in 1959, initially as an inside forward.

He made himself a firm favourite at Griffin Park with his determined displays in a number of positions, but primarily as a wing half.

He finished his Brentford career at the age of 33 in 1970 with 388 Football League appearances under his belt and 433 in all competitions - he also scored 15 goals for The Bees.

When he left Griffin Park to join Hillingdon Borough he was second on the Club's all-time appearance list and even now, only four men - Ken Coote, Jamie Bates, Peter Gelson and Kevin O'Connor - have played more games for The Bees.

Tommy also became renowned for walking from Brighton to Brentford during the QPR takeover bid of 1967 in order to raise vital funds to keep The Bees alive.

He got lost en route and walked considerably further than he had to but still finished ahead of everyone else.

Brentford FC would like to pass on the condolences of everyone involved with the Club to Tommy's family at this time.
