Brentford’s Under-18s got their South East Youth Alliance League campaign under way on Saturday morning as they faced Cambridge United at the home of St Neots Town FC.

The Under-18 side is run in conjunction with the Brentford FC Community Sports Trust this season. Staff from the Post-16 Education Programme in Eddie Keen and Ben Lampert led the young group, who are part of the Football Education Programme at the Trust.

The side came up against a Cambridge group who have worked together for a number of years within the club's academy system and they claimed a 5-0 win over The Bees. Amaru Kaunda grabbed four goals on the day, two of which came in the first half, before he grabbed another couple after the break. Mo Habib got the other goal for the side shortly after the hour mark.

The Bees showed moments of quality as they forced United to defend against a number of set piece deliveries throughout the 90 minutes and they'll learn a great deal from their first league outing. The home side were clinical in their attacking play with two of the goals coming shortly after half-time as they managed to win back possession high off the Brentford back line with Kaunda putting in an impressive display up front.

We would like to thank Cambridge United and their staff, as well as those at St Neots Town, in helping to arrange the venue for the match. The match marks the Academy's first fixture since the news that it would open and operate at Category Four Level this season. The side's next match comes on Saturday 13 August as they head to Southend United.
