Uwe Rösler has left his position as Manager of Brentford Football Club and taken up the same role at Wigan Athletic.

The Club had an approach from Sky Bet Championship Wigan on Thursday, December 5, and, reluctantly, permission was granted once compensation was agreed.

Uwe took First Team training yesterday morning, Friday December 6, and prepared the team for this afternoon’s FA Cup with Budweiser Second Round tie against Carlisle United.

He was due to take the team for the Carlisle match and make a decision on his future afterwards but talks progressed quickly and terms were agreed late last night.

In the circumstances it was felt best by the Club that Assistant Manager Alan Kernaghan and First Team Coach Peter Farrell, supported by Sporting Director Mark Warburton, should take the team for this afternoon’s match.

Uwe will attend Wigan’s match against Millwall this afternoon and take up his position tomorrow.

He will replace Owen Coyle, who left earlier this week.

Uwe becomes the first manager in the Club’s history to leave and walk straight in to a managerial position at a higher level.

Mark Warburton said: “Uwe's departure is of course a loss to the Club but any such departure is testament and recognition of the hard work and dedication he, his staff and of course the players have displayed over the course of the last two and a half years.

“Uwe leaves the club in an excellent condition and I know that he and I both share the absolute belief that this squad of players can move the club forward to achieve its aims and ambitions.

“I personally want to wish Uwe all the very best in his new role, thank him for his outstanding work and also for his support to me.

“He is a good friend and will always be welcome to visit us at GP at any time.”
