Brentford Women's First Team were narrowly beaten 1-0 by Dulwich Hamlet’s Reserves on Sunday morning.
Following the previous victory in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup, the Bees entered Sunday’s game against Dulwich with huge confidence and the chance to move a place above the hosts in the LSE Regional WFL Division One North table.
The opening 10 minutes saw both sides trying to play their way into the game with no real chances created, it wasn’t until 15 minutes in when the Dulwich number 12 came close to scoring following a strike from around 20 yards going just wide of the post.
The Bees began to play their way into the game and nearly took the lead after Kirsty Matthews’ lobbed past found Sophie Troth whose volley went inches over the bar.
Troth was at it again a few moments later with her shot from range again going just over the Dulwich keeper’s bar.
Despite Brentford seemingly controlling the game for the majority of the first half, it was the hosts who opened the scoring on 34 minutes.
The Dulwich right winger found herself with space in the box and neatly passed the ball into the bottom corner, leaving Lilly Hadrava with no chance.
Karleigh Osborne’s side began the second half strongly pressing Dulwich in hopes of finding an equaliser, but the home team were solid defensively leaving the Bees frustrated.
The home team came close to getting their second on 80 minutes after their striker forced an excellent save from Hadrava in the Brentford net.
Brentford were just one pass away from being through on goal and having a great opportunity to rescue a point from the game with five minutes to go however, a heavy pass saw the ball skip out of play.
Dulwich were able to see out the final few minutes despite pressure from the Bees, gaining all three points following an even affair.
Osborne will be looking for a response from his players as they face Abingdon United in the FA Cup Second Qualifying Round.
