On the pitch, midfielder Freya Worsley is as creative as they come.

However, off the pitch, she follows a structured routine that allows her to play at the highest level come matchday.

Since joining Brentford Women, Worsley has become one of the side’s most consistent performers; her connection with attackers Nikki Woods, Chloe Logie and Kirsty Matthews is a clear advantage for Karleigh Osborne’s side.

Part of her success on the pitch is due to Worsley’s consistent routine on and off the pitch throughout the week, with her professionalism something that shines through to all involved at the club.

It’s also thanks to the professional set-up around her and the rest of the players, with coaches and staff playing a huge role in the success that follows come Sunday afternoons.

“We’ve got a few people at the club who I like to talk to who help me along with my weekly routine,” said Worsley.

“Ollie [Cottis] is our psychologist and whenever I have any sort of problems it’s really easy to go and talk to him and tell him about what I’m feeling - whether it’s football or non-football related - which is always nice to have.

“We’ve obviously got Karleigh who’s always there for us. It’s nice to hear his feedback because he’s always got different perspectives from the rest of us, so it’s nice to hear what he has to say as well as your known thoughts.

“Also, we have Louise [Oldfield] who’s our sprinting coach. She’s quite close to me so I sometimes see her outside of the football and we always make plans to go do some running.

“It’s good to have all these sorts of people in the background who you don’t often see as much, but they do really help you throughout the week and for matches.”

Away from Brentford, Worsley works full-time as a PE teacher, which is a job that allows her to follow a strict schedule that seeps into her football.

“Every day, I go into work at 8am until 4.30pm. Tuesdays we have training at the training ground from 7-9pm - that’s in the gym for an hour - then also pitch sessions or sometimes video analysis,” she explained.

“On a Wednesday we have training 8-10pm at Bedfont Sports Club, Friday training as well 8-10pm: hardcore training with Karleigh, Sean [Hillier) and Kevin [Palma].

“I always have a nice decent-sized meal the night before a match to get prepared. I like to wake up quite early on a Sunday before the football so I can have breakfast properly beforehand and a snack in-between.

“I like to get to the match an hour and a half early, do our training, play, hopefully win and then go home!"

Worsley and the Bees will be eyeing a win come 29 September when they welcome Clapton Community to Gtech Community Stadium.

One of Brentford’s league rivals in the London South East Division One North, the two teams are sure to put on a show.
