Ethan Pinnock believes that Brentford executed their gameplan perfectly against Chelsea on Saturday.

The home side had 69 per cent possession but the Bees showed defensive resolve and a cutting edge in SW6, with Pinnock and Bryan Mbeumo’s second-half goals securing a third successive win at Stamford Bridge.

Pinnock, who was deservedly named Player of the Match after the 2-0 win, made two tackles and nine clearances - and won four aerial duels - to help his side to a second clean sheet in as many matches, following last weekend’s 3-0 victory over Burnley.

“It feels great,” Pinnock said. “We knew it was going to be really tough because they’ve been playing really well these last few weeks, but we stayed in the game, we stayed compact, and we managed to frustrate them.

“Kris [Ajer], Nath [Collins] – the communication was good. We dealt with a lot of their danger.

“As long as we’re all talking to each other, that keeps us focused and concentrated.”

Pinnock praised Mbeumo for his involvement in his 59th-minute goal. Mathias Jensen collected the ball before clipping it down the wing for the Cameroon international to cross to the far post for Pinnock to head home.

“We knew we’d be dangerous from set-pieces and on the counter and it’s worked out today,” Pinnock said.

“We worked on the throw-in routine, so it was just about holding my position and staying patient.

“As soon as I saw the flight of the ball from Bryan, I knew the defender was going to be a bit under it.

“So, it was just about timing and getting a good contact. Credit to Bryan; it was a great cross.”
