Brentford defender Ethan Pinnock spoke of his frustration following the Bees’ 1-0 defeat to Sheffield United.

A superb strike from James McAtee in first-half stoppage-time proved to be the difference between the two sides on Saturday afternoon.

Thomas Frank’s side had 60 per cent of the ball and 10 attempts on goal, but Blades keeper Wes Foderingham was relatively untroubled at Bramall Lane.

“It’s disappointing,” Pinnock began. “We started strong, looked comfortable on the ball and entered their final third really well. It was the final touch that we were lacking.

“I think for the goal [McAtee] meant to cross it, so it was a bit of a freak goal. But that happens and we need to be able to bounce back.

“When you’re 1-0 down, you have to keep playing the same way. I think we forced it a bit too much today, which is something we need to look at.”

Brentford are without eight first-team players due to injury, and Pinnock said that a new-look Bees side needs time to gel.

“Obviously it makes a difference, when you have to change a lot of players who have played regularly,” he admitted.

“But credit to the boys who have come in; they’ve kept themselves ready and they’re in good shape.

“It’s going to take some extra time to bond, but during the first 20 minutes we were getting into the final third.”
