Kristoffer Ajer believes that Brentford’s performance against Manchester United on Saturday was one of the side’s best in the Premier League.

The away team took the lead against the run of play six minutes into added time – substitute Mason Mount sweeping beyond Bees keeper Mark Flekken – but Ajer converted Ivan Toney’s cutback three minutes later in a dramatic finale at Gtech Community Stadium.

Thomas Frank’s side had 31 shots on goal and 85 touches in United’s box in an outstanding display in west London.

“It was a crazy game,” Ajer began. “We played one of our best games in the Premier League and created so many chances. On a different day we win quite comfortably.

“When they scored the 1-0 goal it was a punch in the face for the whole team, but luckily we managed to get the equaliser."

The Norwegian added: “Two in two now, that’s not like me! It was fantastic play from Ivan to bring that ball down and the cutback was amazing.

“It was amazing to celebrate a really deserved goal. We fought the whole game to get it, so we had to celebrate it.

“We defended very well, which is the most important thing. It was an unlucky goal to concede: two tackles, two deflections that bounced for them and a good finish.

“The mentality in the group is fantastic. It was tough to concede the goal but I knew we would create more chances.”
