Thomas Frank was pleased to see his side bounce back from a disappointing defeat to Everton with a much-improved performance against Arsenal in the third round of the Carabao Cup.
Reiss Nelson struck what proved to be the winning goal with eight minutes on the clock, but Frank focused on the positives after the full-time whistle at Gtech Community Stadium.
Brentford had 18 shots against the Gunners, with Aaron Ramsdale pushing Yoane Wissa's effort on to the post during a dominant second-half display.
“I asked for a bounce-back performance from the players, and they gave me that,” he began.
“The second half was top. We pushed Arsenal back, created a lot of good chances and were very unlucky not to score. The margins didn’t drop our way.
“I was very pleased with the performance and that’s what we need to continue with going into the game [against Nottingham Forest] on Sunday.”
Frank continued: “We created good moments, pressed very well and high and won the ball back a lot of times.
“We created all the chances that you can ask for in a game like this and on another day they go in the back of the net.
“It’s very tough to take that we didn’t get something out of it, but tomorrow – with the 24-hour rule – I won’t be too disappointed. We need to look at the positives and move forward.”
Brentford are currently without six first-team players due to injury, including Kevin Schade who will undergo surgery this week, but Frank insisted that he still has plenty of quality at his disposal.
“All teams will struggle if they miss seven very good players so that’s a challenge, but we put a very strong team out there today and had some very strong players coming off the bench,” he said.
“It’s a credit to everyone in the squad that we performed so well today and I’m confident going into the game on Sunday.”
