Brentford head coach Thomas Frank has reflected on an incredible season, which culminated in a 1-0 win over Premier League champions Manchester City at the Gtech Community Stadium.
A second-half Ethan Pinnock goal secured the victory for the Bees, which was the second win over City this season, making the west Londoners the only team Pep Guardiola's side failed to beat this campaign.
And, after twice beating a side that could go on to do the treble this season, Frank described the feat as 'incredible'.
“We couldn't have written it better," he said. "You could say that we just couldn’t sneak into a European place, but, hey, we did our part so there’s nothing to complain about. It was just incredible.”
He added: “We know that they didn't put their strongest line-up out there today, I think that’s fair to say, but they still had some top Premier League players out there, so they’ve still got an unbelievable team and we still had to beat them - and we did that!
“And then, of course, we beat them at the most difficult place in the world to win, which is at the Etihad Stadium.
“I think that the fans will like the narrative that, if they go on to win the treble, we’ll have beaten the treble winners twice.”
While the 2022/23 campaign had only just finished, Frank was already looking ahead to next season.
After a superb ninth-place finish in the Premier League this year, the Bees boss stated his side will do 'everything they can to come back stronger' next term.
He said: “I think this win and this season is worthwhile celebrating. Finishing ninth in the best league in the world, as Brentford, is fantastic. I really hope that the fans enjoyed that.
“We'll do everything we can to come back stronger. Of course, we respect this league and we know it’s crazy, so we know it will be difficult to come back stronger than this.
“But if you don't try it, then nothing will happen.”
