Brentford head coach Thomas Frank expressed his frustration following the Bees’ 1-1 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers on Friday night.

Frank’s side had a one-goal and one-man advantage at half-time - João Gomes was sent off inside the opening 10 minutes for a bad foul on Christian Nørgaard and Neal Maupay gave Brentford the lead with a smart finish on 41 minutes – but Tommy Doyle struck in the second half to set up a third-round replay at Molineux.

“We can only blame ourselves that we didn’t go through to the next round today,” the Bees boss began.

“Clearly, we want a cup run. And clearly we wanted to win this game.

“When you play 11 against 10 for 80 minutes, you’ve got to win. End of discussion.

“We know it’s not that easy. Credit to Wolves, it’s the classic example of a team with a momentum, and a team not with momentum. It’s down to quality today. Simple.

“Some nice moves but not efficient; we didn’t create enough chances.”

Josh Dasilva featured for the first time since August, and Frank was pleased to see the midfielder return to action: “The big positive tonight was Josh – that he played 60 minutes and showed some of the quality he’s got. We’re very pleased to see him out there on the pitch.”

Frank confirmed that Nørgaard – who was an early withdrawal after Gomes raked his studs down the captain’s Achilles – will be assessed.
