Keane Lewis-Potter rued Brentford’s “sloppy” start against West Ham United on Monday night, as the Bees fell to a 4-2 defeat at London Stadium.

Thomas Frank’s side were 2-0 down inside seven minutes, when Jarrod Bowen netted twice from inside the penalty area.

Neal Maupay pulled a goal back for the visitors on 13 minutes, but goals in the second half from Bowen, his third of the night, and a long-range hit from Emerson gave Brentford a mountain to climb.

Yoane Wissa reduced the deficit with 10 minutes to play, but his goal proved to be only a consolation.

“It’s hugely disappointing,” Lewis-Potter began.

“We started the game very sloppy, and you can’t do that in the Premier League. You can’t expect to get points from the game and today showed that.

“With the position we’re in now, the most important thing is getting points on the board. We didn’t do that today.”

Lewis-Potter, who played as a right-wing back against the Hammers, assisted Maupay for Brentford’s opening goal with a perfectly weighted through ball.

And the former Hull City man believes he is developing an understanding with Maupay and strike partner Ivan Toney.

“We’re making a bond up there between us,” he said.

“It’s a bit harder right now, playing with two and then wing-backs, so when I get in those positions I try to combine with them.

“It’s not my natural position, so I’m getting used to it. In training and in games I’m working on the things I need to improve on. Hopefully game by game, session by session, I can do that.”
