After signing a new long-term contract, Brentford defender Mads Roerslev revealed that he 'didn't think of saying no' to extending his stay with the Bees.

Having committed to three more years with the club, Roerslev is hoping to continue on an upward trajectory.

"It feels really good," he said, "I'm very happy to extend my contract with Brentford.

"We've been up to some good things and, when you just look at how the club has been over the years and the progression we've made, you don't really think of saying no."

Roerslev, who has made 79 appearances for the Bees, was initially signed as a B-team player in August 2019.

And the right-back is an excellent example for players in Neil MacFarlane’s side to look up to, as they aim to make the step up to the first team, just like Roerslev has.

“The plan when I got here was that I had a few months in the B team, where I should just play as many games as I could to get into my rhythm again and, if I did well, obviously I could progress,” Roerslev recalled.

"I feel like everyone who knows Neil MacFarlane knows that [they work you hard]! They definitely run things their own way, but it has its benefits.

“I was used to playing first-team football because, back in Denmark, I got into the first team quite early - I think I was like 17 or something.

“It was quite natural for me to get into the Brentford first team so it was quite a smooth process.”

And the right-back also admitted that it’s not just his football ability the club have helped develop during his time in west London.

“I basically came as a young kid and now I stand here as a 23-year-old, so they’ve helped me develop as a footballer and as a person,” he said.

“On the pitch, I feel like over the years I've really developed my defensive side.

“I used to work really closely with [Henrik] Dalsgaard when he was here. He helped me a lot and I was learning a bit from him.

“He was sort of mentoring me through the defensive side, so that definitely helped me a lot."

Roerslev concluded: “This season, we want to create something special. We’ve been on this run over the past few years and we definitely want to continue that.

“For us, there is no time to rest, we just want to achieve and I think that's one of the special things about this group - we're never satisfied. We always look forward.”
