Thomas Frank labelled Brentford’s 2-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion a ‘beautiful, ugly win’.
A goal in each half from Ivan Toney helped the Bees produce a perfect response to last weekend’s heavy defeat at Newcastle.
“It’s the best feeling,” said Frank, speaking after the full-time whistle.
“Sometimes you need to do what’s needed to win a football match.
“I asked for three things today: win the 50-50 balls; run, run and run a bit more; and win the set-piece battle. If we did the basics, we knew we’d have a good chance of winning the game, which we did.
“Could we play a bit more and a bit better? At times, yes. But we were facing a very good Brighton team that is well drilled and in a good place. It’s a fantastic win.
“I’m so pleased for the boys. They gave everything out there."
Ahead of the game, Frank had encouraged the Bees supporters to bring their scarves to the Gtech Community Stadium and produce an ‘unbelievable atmosphere’.
The head coach was delighted with the fans’ response.
“They helped so much,” he said.
“Togetherness is a big value; the players, the staff and the fans. Sometimes we need each other to get over the line.
"That energy throughout the game, the sound, it was fantastic.”
