Ben Mee began his professional career at Manchester City, captaining the club’s FA Youth Cup-winning side of 2007/08.
Mee made his professional debut for City in September 2010 in a League Cup tie against West Bromwich Albion.
After struggling for minutes behind Vincent Kompany, Joleon Lescott and Jerome Boateng, Mee was loaned to Leicester City in January for the remainder of the 2010/11 season and made 15 league appearance for the Foxes.
The following season, Mee was loaned to Burnley. The move would become permanent in January 2012.
Mee played a vital role in Burnley’s promotion to the Premier League in the 2013/14 season. He played 38 league matches, predominantly at left-back, as part of a formidable defence that conceded the fewest number of goals in the division.
Burnley were relegated on their return to the Premier League but immediately bounced back to the top flight the following season and became a mainstay in the division.
In the Clarets’ second season back in the Premier League they finished seventh and qualified for the Europa League, with Mee and former Brentford player James Tarkowski forming an impressive partnership.
“We were very organised and had a really good team,” the defender recalled.
“Without creating too much, we were solid as a group and we had the mentality that we all had each other's backs.
"In that season, we were solid, we nicked games here and there, things went our way, and we managed to finish seventh.”
Mee, sidelined by injury in early 2022, took his first steps into coaching when he became a player-coach at Burnley and was appointed assistant to caretaker manager Mike Jackson when Sean Dyche was dismissed by the Clarets.
Following Burnley’s relegation, Mee ended his 10-year stay in Lancashire with a move to Brentford in July 2022.
He scored on his home debut in the unforgettable 4-0 win over Manchester United and missed only one game all season.
He was named Brentford Supporters’ 2023/23 Player of the Year in recognition of his impressive performances.
