Matas Klimas' football journey began at the grassroots level, where he honed his skills until the age of 12. His early promise saw him trial at Dagenham & Redbridge and Millwall, though he faced setbacks along the way. However, his persistence paid off when he was scouted and signed by Tottenham Hotspur at U13 level.

After four years at Spurs, Matas faced another challenge, not receiving a scholarship at U16. Determined, he trialed at various clubs before earning a spot with Brentford’s U18s team, where he now continues his development.

A solid, line-breaking defender, Matas is known for his composure and ability to read the game. His time at Brentford has further sharpened his skills, particularly his passing and game intelligence. One of his proudest moments came when he represented Lithuania at international level from U15 to U19, showcasing his talent on a bigger stage.

Before matches, Matas fuels his focus with upbeat music, though he’s versatile in his playlist, ready for whatever gets him in the zone. His dream five-a-side team, featuring legends such as Manuel Neuer, Sergio Ramos, Messi, Neymar, and Ronaldinho, reflects his admiration for both solid defense and creative flair.

Reflecting on his time at Brentford, Matas recalls the special moment of starting in the FA Youth Cup against his former club, Tottenham Hotspur, a highlight in his young career. His goal for the season is ambitious yet clear: to win a cup trophy with the U18s. The biggest influence on his career has been his dad, who has instilled in him the drive to keep pushing forward despite challenges.

Training alongside the first team at the Robert Rowan Performance Centre has given Matas valuable insight into the level of professionalism required both on and off the pitch. This experience has boosted his confidence, allowing him to express himself more freely and enjoy the game even more.

Looking to the future, Matas believes his passing ability and football intelligence are qualities he can offer the club in the years to come, as he continues his journey toward a successful professional career.
