Patrik came through the youth ranks at Breiðablik and played for the Icelandic team’s Under-19 side in the UEFA Youth League when he was 16. He spent time on loan at ĺþróttafélag Reykjavíkur in the second tier of Icelandic football in the summer of 2018 before joining the B Team.
Patrik’s performances for the B Team during his maiden season in England earned him a place on the substitute’s bench for seven First Team games. He was called upon to make a Brentford debut in our Sky Bet Championship win at Middlesbrough. He replaced Daniel Bentley for the final 16 minutes, plus eight minutes of stoppage time, as we picked up a 2-1 win. Patrik also made his Iceland Under-21 debut last season, having represented his country at Under-17 level when he was just 15.
Brentford Head Coach, Thomas Frank, said: “Patrik is another young player who we think very highly of. He has a great future and is a potential Brentford number one if he keeps developing the way he has been. Patrik’s mentality is unbelievable. Like Jan Zamburek, his work ethic and passion to improve is something to behold. He is very highly rated within the first team dressing room.”
B Team Technical Lead, Allan Steele, said: “The B Team would like to congratulate Pat on another positive step in his development. The pathway for B Team players into the First team is one we are very proud of but this can only happen when you have a clear strategy, undoubted support from the club and its staff, combined with players who are motivated, talented and extremely hard working. Pat is an example of all this and more. We all look forward to helping Pat to further his career with us.”
