The nominees have been announced for the London Football Awards 2020 and Brentford are well represented. Every year, the best of London Football is celebrated at a ceremony in Spring. This year the awards will be held on 5 March at The Roundhouse and there is a real chance that Brentford representatives will be picking up prizes.
Brentford have been regular winners at the evening, which has become an increasingly high-profile event in the sporting calendar. Neal Maupay was named EFL Player of the Year at the event last year. That followed a win for Daniel Bentley as Goalkeeper of the Year in 2018. Mark Warburton also won at the event in 2015, being named Manager of the Year.
Brentford are represented in all three of those categories this time around, as well as one more. Thomas Frank is up for the Manager of the Year prize while David Raya is nominated for Goalkeeper of the Year. Brentford dominated the EFL Player of the Year nominations with Saïd Benrahma, Bryan Mbeumo and Ollie Watkins all in the running. Bryan is also nominated for the Young Player of the Year award.
The awards raise funds for Willow, the only national charity providing Special Days for seriously ill 16-40-year-olds. These Special Days enable them and their families to reconnect and refocus on each other while enjoying an activity of their choosing. A day for them, a day about them and a day that will create memories they will all treasure forever.
Willow was founded by former Arsenal goalkeeper and TV presenter Bob Wilson and his wife, Megs, as a lasting memorial to their daughter Anna, who died of cancer aged 31. Since 1999 the charity has fulfilled more than 13,000 Special Days for young adults living with life-threatening conditions such as cancer, motor neurone disease, cystic fibrosis and muscular dystrophy.
