Jan was nominated in the Senior Youth category, for players under the age of 19, alongside Adam Hložek of Sparta Prague and Hradec Králové's Filip Firbacher. And it was 17-year-old Hložek, a regular in the Czech top flight for Sparta this term, who took the main prize, ahead of Jan in second, with Firbacher in third.
Jan became the first player born in the 2000s to make a competitive appearance for the Club when he came off the bench during our 5-1 victory over Hull City in February. Two months later the 18-year-old was celebrating silverware as part of the Brentford B squad which won the Middlesex Senior Cup at Griffin Park.
In August, Jan made his full debut against Cambridge United in the EFL Cup. Later that month, he signed a new long-term contract and was officially promoted to the First Team group at Jersey Road. Jan's full Sky Bet Championship debut came against Blackburn Rovers in November and he contributed his first assist on New Year's Day for our third goal against Bristol City.
At international level, 2019 saw Jan and Czech Republic Under-18s begin the year with success at the Sportchain Cup in the UAE. After promotion to the Under-19 group, the attacking midfielder played every game as the Czechs topped Group Seven in Under-19 European Championship Qualifying to progress to the Elite Round coming up in March.
In total, Jan earned five caps at Under-18 level and seven at Under-19 level in 2019, netting his maiden Under-19 goal during the 3-3 draw with Holland in November.
