Brentford FC can confirm that nine players have left the Club, having not been offered new contracts. Striker Justin Shaibu will be leaving The Bees after four years in West London. Brentford B players Reece Cole, David Titov, Matej Majka, Jonny Mitchell, Nick Tsaroulla, Jaden Brissett, Cole Dasilva and Jayden Onen have also left Griffin Park. Their contracts all expired on Tuesday, 30 June, and were not renewed.
Justin has been with Vanarama National League side Boreham Wood all season, the second he has spent there, playing 30 games in all competitions and scoring five goals. The striker progressed through the ranks after joining Brentford B and played five games for The Bees after signing a three-year contract upon promotion to the First Team in 2017, scoring in an EFL Cup win against AFC Wimbledon. He has also played for Denmark at Under-17, Under-18 and Under-20 level.
Thomas Frank, Brentford FC Head Coach, said: “I want to thank Justin for his hard work and efforts during his time here with us. Unfortunately, things didn’t work out the way that Justin, or we, would have preferred. We strongly believe that Justin will have a good career ahead of him and we hope that he finds a Club which will help him achieve that.”
Both Reece and David were part of the youth teams with The Bees before transitioning into the Brentford B setup in 2016 with Reece going on to have loan spells in Sky Bet League Two, and most recently with Scottish side Partick Thistle. David is the current highest appearance maker for Brentford B with the full back turning out 103 times and finding the net on five occasions.
Jaden Brissett spent 18 months with Brentford B and scored 15 times in 24 appearances this term whilst winger Matej leaves after two years with The Bees. He helped himself to four goals in 32 appearances as the side toured the likes of Spain, Portugal and Cyprus.
Jonny joined the club in June 2018 and went on to play 61 times for Brentford B whilst Cole Dasilva and Jayden Onen also made significant contributions to the B Team setup with former making 48 appearances in red and white whilst Jayden played 30 times, netting on three occasions. Nick Tsaroulla spent one year with Brentford B and played 31 times over the course of the 2019/20 season.
Discussing the departures, Brentford B Head Coach Neil MacFarlane said: “The strategy here is to promote from the B Team to the First Team but not every single player is going to get there. We push the players to their limits to make sure that when they get their opportunity with the First Team then they grab it, but if they can’t get through then they take the opportunity to look back at their time with the Club and think of it as a good period for them. There also comes a point for some of the boys that it is time to move on and go and find First Team football somewhere else
“As a group of players, I have absolutely no complaints with the way that they conducted themselves from the very first moment they stepped foot in the building until the very end. I enjoyed coaching them every single day. They went about their business the exact way that I wanted them to and I wish them all the very best in the future and hope that they go on and find a club that can get them good game time to push their careers on.”
The Club can also confirm that Japhet Sery Larsen and Christian Tue Jensen have returned to FC Midtjylland after their year-long loans at Brentford came to an end. All departing players leave with the Club’s best wishes as they take the next steps in their careers.
