Brentford striker Marcus Forss has received his first call-up to the full Finland squad. Marcus is one of the top scorers in the Sky Bet Championship this season and has excelled at youth international level. He has now been called in to the full national squad for three upcoming matches.
Finland’s national squad will meet up on Monday, after Brentford’s Championship match against Middlesbrough. They will play a friendly fixture against France next Wednesday, 11 November, the first of three away games. They then travel to Sofia to play Bulgaria on Sunday 15 November before a match against Wales on Wednesday 18 November.
The second and third fixtures for Finland are UEFA Nations League matches. Finland in League B Group Four and have won three of their four games so far, beating Republic of Ireland home and away and Bulgaria but losing to Wales. If they win both games they will be promoted to League A.
Marcus was part of the Finland Under-21 squad for games in October for the first time in a year. He scored in one of his two appearances last month and has two goals in five caps at that level. Finland cannot qualify for the European Under-21 Championships, which will be played in Hungary and Slovenia next year and will be split across March, for the group stage, and then May and June for the final stages. Marcus will be aiming to now make an impact at full international level after 11 goals in 21 international matches across the age groups.
Marcus, 21, will also hope to take his club form to international level. In ten games this season, three from the start and seven as a substitute, he has scored six times. Four of those goals have come in the Championship and only five players have more goals in the division this season.
