Brentford FC Head Coach, Thomas Frank, said: “Jan is a very promising player who we think has massive potential. What he needs at this stage in his career are regular minutes and we can’t be sure that he will get those with us right now. We are very pleased that he is going to Shrewsbury Town as that will help him develop. He is a big player for the future.”
Jan came through the ranks at Slavia Praha in his native Czech Republic before joining Brentford B in the summer of 2018. The following February, Jan became the first player born in the 2000s to appear in a competitive match for the Club when he made his debut against Hull City at Griffin Park. He was also named on the bench for our final day victory over Preston North End.
Aged 18, Jan was officially promoted to the First Team squad last August. He made his full league debut against Blackburn Rovers in November and registered his first assist during our 4-0 New Year’s Day win over Bristol City. In total, Jan made 19 appearances last season and has started a further two Carabao Cup ties this term, victories over Wycombe Wanderers and West Bromwich Albion, before heading out on loan.
At youth international level, Jan has been a regular in recent years. He has 38 caps from Under-15 to Under-19 level, with five goals. In January, he was named runner-up in the Czech Republic Young Player of the Year award.
