Both Ivan Toney and Tariqe Fosu were up for the second tier prize after fine January's which saw Ivan add three goals and two assists to his tally in three games while Tariqe netted twice in the same period. However, the January prize went to Reading striker Lucas Joao after his four goal month.

In League One, on loan goalkeeper Ellery Balcombe's four clean sheets across all competitions and brace of penalty saves against League One leaders Lincoln City wasn't enough to see him take the award. Instead it went to Plymouth Argyle's young striker Luke Jephcott who found the net three times in all competitions to open 2021.
