Brentford defender Dominic Thompson has joined Swindon Town on loan for the rest of the season. The 20-year-old left-sided player completed his move this morning, Monday 4 January, and trained with the Sky Bet League One side today. He will stay with them until the end of the 2020/21 season and could make his debut for Swindon at Ipswich Town on Saturday, 9 January.
Thomas Frank, Brentford FC Head Coach, said: “Dom has done a very good job for us this season and is developing as a player. But he has Rico Henry ahead of him to play left back at Brentford and he needs to get regular games in order to take the next step. This is a great opportunity for him. Swindon are a good club, playing at a decent level in League One and Dom will be able to play for them for the rest of the season.”
Dom, as he is known to most, joined Brentford from Arsenal in the summer of 2019, ending a seven-year association with Arsenal. The came through the ranks at the North London side and turned professional but left before making a competitive appearance for them. He was, however, part of the team which reached the FA Youth Cup Final in 2018.
Dom made his Brentford debut in a Carabao Cup tie against Cambridge United and played five games for The Bees last season, three from the start and two in the Sky Bet Championship. He has been in every matchday squad this season and has played nine games in all competitions. Dom has started six games this term, made his first Championship start and has played every game in Brentford’s run to the Carabao Cup Semi-Finals.
