Henrik Dalsgaard, Luke Daniels, and Emiliano Marcondes are all out of contract on 30 June. FC Midtjylland, the Danish Superliga side, have announced that Henrik will join them once his Brentford contract expires. Luke and Emiliano will also both leave Brentford on 30 June.

It’s fair to say that our promotion to the Premier League would’ve been that much more difficult without them, and they leave with our best wishes for their future careers. Henrik’s 162nd and final Brentford appearance came in the Sky Bet Championship Play-Off Final at Wembley against Swansea City, bringing to an end a four-year association with the Club. The defender scored seven goals during his time in West London and, in 2018, became the first contracted Brentford player to appear at a World Cup Finals, playing every minute as Denmark reached the Last 16. Henrik also holds the record for most international caps won while a contracted Brentford player with 22 of his 26 international appearances coming during his time in TW8. Henrik made 40 appearances during his final season with Brentford, returning from injury to feature in all three Play-Off games last month.

Thomas Frank, Brentford FC Head Coach, said: “Henrik had a lot of experience when he came to us, but he has grown as a person and a player in his four years here. He was one of the top players and leaders in the squad, particularly in the past two seasons. He has developed that part of his personality.

“Henrik has been one of the players that drives the standards in the group every day, in matches and in training. On the pitch he gave us seven or eight out of ten every match and he played the right centre back role in his last matches for us to perfection. We will miss him around the Training Ground and wish him all the best for his new start at FCM.”

Luke will depart Brentford after four years with the Club. The goalkeeper joined in the summer of 2017 and has been involved in all-but four matchday squads during his time with The Bees. Luke made 36 appearances over those four years, 17 of them coming in the Sky Bet Championship. He made four league appearances this campaign, keeping one clean sheet, and also played three times during our run to the Carabao Cup Semi-Final, keeping a clean sheet in our Quarter-Final win over Newcastle United.

Thomas Frank said: “Luke has done a great job for us since he came to the Club four years ago. He is one of the players that has helped build the culture in the dressing room. He is a top professional and has played a big part in driving the team to a high level.

“Luke has performed very well for us and has played an important role as our second goalkeeper. He has helped push standards and performances up from those around him. I would like to thank him for his efforts for us and his next club are getting an excellent goalkeeper who will get a chance to show everyone his qualities.”

Emiliano spent three-and-a-half years at Brentford, having joined from FC Nordsjælland. He played 97 games for Brentford, scoring seven goals, three of which came this season. His first, an audacious overhead kick against West Bromwich Albion in the Carabao Cup, was voted the Goal of the Round while his final one came at Wembley to put us 2-0 up in the Play-Off Final.

Thomas Frank added: “Everyone could see what a big part Emiliano played in getting us promoted through the Play-Offs. He was Man of the Match in the Final, scored a goal and was everywhere and I think he was even better in the Semi-Final [Second Leg against AFC Bournemouth]. He has been a big part of the squad and played a lot of games at the start of the season. He had an injury early in 2021 but I knew I wanted to play him in the Play-Off games because of his personality and the way he performs on the big occasion.

“Overall, I think Emi has been unlucky in his time with us. He got some injuries at crucial moments, but he has been a big part of what we have achieved. We have always had players doing extra work after training, pushed by the coaching staff, but Emiliano has made that a big part of his time with us. Others have seen his example and we now have lots of players doing extra work. He has driven that.

“Emiliano will be missed by us. I would like to thank him for all his work for us. I am sure he will do a great job for his next club.”

Winston Reid has returned to West Ham United following a half-season loan spell at Brentford which saw him make 11 appearances. He started seven Sky Bet Championship games and was a late substitute in the Play-Off Final.

Ellery Balcombe, Halil Dervişoğlu, Patrik Gunnarsson, Julian Jeanvier, Dominic Thompson, and Joel Valencia are all now back at Brentford following the conclusion of their loan spells.

All other Brentford players are under contract for the 2021/22 Premier League season.
