Brentford FC is aware of a seven-match ban issued by an independent regulatory commission set up by the Football Association (The FA) to Queens Park Rangers defender Todd Kane. This relates to the game between the two sides on Wednesday 17 February.
Kane admitted using abusive and/or insulting words towards Sergi Canós in the 62nd minute of the fixture. Kane further admitted these words included a reference, whether express or implied, to nationality and/or ethnicity, which made it an aggravated breach of FA Rule E3 (2). As well as the suspension, Kane was also ordered to pay a fine and to attend Mandatory Equality Education, delivered by The FA.
Brentford FC would like to thank The FA’s independent commission for their thorough and objective investigation. As stated in the written decisions, published today, Sergi followed the correct protocol as recommended by The FA and The PFA by reporting the abuse to the referee the moment it was heard on the pitch. Sergi was described by the commission as a credible and truthful witness. We wholeheartedly continue to support our player.
The Club has no further comment to make on this matter.
