Christian Eriksen played nearly 80 minutes in Brentford’s 2-2 draw with a Rangers XI on Monday afternoon.
The 30-year-old played a key role in the behind closed doors friendly, providing the assists for both of Brentford’s goals. Zanka scored the first and Tristan Crama netted the second in the game played at The Gers’ training ground just outside Glasgow.
The Bees started the game strongly and were in the driving seat after 15 minutes. Eriksen got his second assist in as many games when he floated a corner into the box, Zanka was waiting to nod home from close range.
The goal sparked life into the home side, who created a number of good chances in the following spell. It culminated in an equaliser after 24 minutes. A neat pass from Glen Kamara found Amad Diallo on the edge of the box and the winger cut inside before firing beyond Álvaro Fernández with his left foot.
Ten minutes later they had a golden chance to score a second from the penalty spot. A ball in behind Crama saw Scott Wright impeded by Fernández as he attempted to grab the ball. The resulting spot-kick was taken by Kemar Roofe but it was saved by the keeper, diving hard to his left and parrying the ball away. Quickest to react, Diallo stole in ahead of the defenders to sweep home his second of the afternoon.
Fernández was crucial to keeping The Bees in touch as he made a fine stop to keep out Roofe on the break just moments later. A sublime passage of play from Diallo to Wright and then Roofe had the striker one-on-one, but the keeper stood strong and palmed the shot over the bar. It was a tight game heading into half-time.
Ten minutes into the second half, The Bees were back on level terms. Another Eriksen delivery, another goal. The Danish maestro whipped in a free-kick from the left wing and Crama got across his marker to flick the ball past the goalkeeper at the near post.
With 20 to play, Jonas Lössl proved that he’d been paying attention despite a lack of action in his half. Alex Lowry got space on the edge of the box and fired towards the top corner, a strong right hand from the keeper made sure it ended up north of the crossbar.
Shortly after, he was in action again to deny Kane Ritchie-Hosler from close range. He was brave in throwing himself in the way of the shot from just a few yards out, keeping the scores level until the end.
