Yesterday, we got our 2022/23 pre-season schedule underway at Boreham Wood. Bryan Mbeumo scored a penalty in the first half before Josh Dasilva got himself on the scoresheet late in the game.
Over 1,000 fans witnessed our 2-0 win at the LV Bet Stadium, Meadow Park. That number included new signing Aaron Hickey, who watched on from the stands after training at Jersey Road for the first time that morning. He gave us his first impression of the Club in his first interview in West London on Friday evening.
Three B Team players also got some valuable game time under the eyes of Head Coach Thomas Frank and the rest of the coaching staff. Ryan Trevitt, Daniel Oyegoke and Nathan Young-Coombes all featured in the Hertfordshire sunshine. Their usual teammates were elsewhere, facing Salisbury FC and snatching a 3-2 win in their first game of pre-season.
With only nine minutes played, referee Will Finnie was pointing to the penalty spot. Trevitt was involved again, sweeping a pass into the path of Yoane Wissa who was then felled by Dennon Lewis. Mbeumo stepped up to convert the penalty, with Ivan Toney in the second-half eleven. He sent the keeper the wrong way to slot it into the bottom corner.
The second goal came right at the death. Dasilva drilled the ball through a crowd in the penalty area. It took a deflection off Stephens as it crossed the line but it was our number 10's goal.
Captain Pontus Jansson spoke to us after the game, calling the result 'a good start' in the week before they head to Germany on tour.
"The physical performances were very good, so I think the physical department were happy. Thomas [Frank] was happy with the result and Brian [Riemer] was happy because we kept a clean sheet and defended well. We saw a lot of good, positive things."
