Brentford B midfield player Dom Jefferies has agreed to join Gillingham. The 20-year-old will complete the move next Wednesday, 22 June. The midfield player will link up with the Sky Bet League Two for pre-season training side ahead of the start of the EFL campaign at the end of next month.
Dom spent a year with Brentford B after joining from Salisbury last summer on a one-year contract with an option for an extra year. He played 42 games for Brentford B, scored eight goals and contributed a further seven assists. His performances earned him the Mary Halder Award for 2021/22 – which commemorates former Club employee Mary Halder, who worked at Brentford for more than 25 years, and is given to the Brentford B Player of the Year, chosen by the staff.
Neil MacFarlane, Brentford B Head Coach, said: “Dom has had unbelievable year with us. He came in on trial and we could see immediately what a driven character he was. He has come on so much in the last year.
“He has driven himself to get better but also had a great role within the group. He has driven standards at the Training Ground. We are delighted to see him get an opportunity in the EFL. It is a great achievement for him to come from where he was, playing at Salisbury and on trial with us, to getting an EFL contract.
“We saw last year that the level of our First Team in the Premier League is incredibly high. We have some great young players and Dom is one of them. Not all of them will make it to the Premier League and there is a different pathway for them, to go to good EFL sides and make a career in the game. It is a credit to him and to the staff here that he is now on that pathway.
“I also want to say that Dom will be a dream to work with. He is an outstanding character and will be brilliant in any dressing room he goes in to. Everyone here wishes him all the best for the future.”
Dom spent his youth career with Newport County in League Two and worked his way up to become a second-year academy scholar at Rodney Parade. He played six times for Newport’s First Team during the 2019/20 season as he featured in the EFL Trophy before making his Emirates FA Cup debut in their 1-0 win away at Maldon and Tiptree.
He departed South Wales for Salisbury at the end of that season following an earlier short-term loan spell with the Wiltshire side. After joining in the summer of 2020, Dom was able to get some game time in men’s football in the Southern League Premier Division South under his belt before he came on trial with the young Bees in January 2021 when that league was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In his year with The Bees Dom regularly captained Brentford B, leading them in the Atlantic Cup in Portugal, as well as helping them to lift the London Senior Cup with a victory over Hendon FC.
