Ellery Balcombe began his career at Stevenage before moving to Brentford at the age of eight.

Having progressed through the ranks, he moved into the newly formed B team for the 2016/17 season.

Involved in the Bees’ matchday squad against Fulham in the Championship and then Notts County in the Emirates FA Cup, Balcombe then had a short loan spell at Boreham Wood in 2018. That move was cut short by a knee injury.

In the of summer 2019, he started another loan spell with Danish side Viborg FF. That deal lasted until January 2020, when he was recalled.

In January 2021, Balcombe joined League One club Doncaster Rovers on loan until the end of the 2020/21 season. He finished his spell with 17 appearances. The following six months were spent on loan at Burton Albion, also in League One, where he played mainly as a cup goalkeeper.

He then joined National League side Bromley on loan in January 2022. Becoming the first-choice keeper, he made 19 appearances en route to the first silverware of his senior career. He made several saves as Bromley beat Wrexham 1-0 at Wembley Stadium in front of 46,000 fans.

After a successful loan, he returned to the EFL with Crawley Town for another loan move in League Two. He made 10 league appearances before joining League One Bristol Rovers in January where he made eight appearances.

Balcombe became Brentford’s regular third-choice goalkeeper, behind Mark Flekken and Thomas Strakosha, during the 2023/24 season.

He completed another loan move to Scottish Premiership side St Mirren for the 2024/25 season.

Balcombe has represented England up to under-21 level and was part of the U20 squad that won the Toulon Tournament in 2017.
