Thomas Frank sat down with the media on Friday morning to look ahead to Brentford’s game against Leeds United.
The Bees boss stressed the importance of consistency with his side looking to extend their seven-game unbeaten run in the Premier League.
“We try to be consistent with our messages; what we say to the team during the week and how we train,” said Frank.
“But every game has its own story, so I try and find a narrative that fits the game, but inside the bracket of the normal, consistent messages.
“My message before the Bournemouth game was that we could not drop off even five per cent. We had to be sure that the standards and the training sessions were absolutely 100 per cent, if not more, which the players did. We got the result and we got the basics right.
“Now we’re going into Leeds who are the hardest runners in the division; the most intense runs, the most sprints. We are very aware of that.
“The smaller transitions, the bigger transitions, these things we need to be ready for.”
Full-back boost for Brentford - Thomas Frank delivers injury update
Without a win since the World Cup break, Leeds currently sit 14th in the Premier League – two points above the relegation zone – albeit with a game in hand on every other side in the bottom half of the table.
But Frank believes that Brentford face a tough test on Sunday, despite Leeds’ recent points return.
“We’re going to Leeds, one of the most difficult away grounds,” he continued.
“They have very good fans, who make a lot of noise.
“The team play and perform much better than the results they’ve got.
“I understand why [Jesse] Marsch said that the Villa game [Leeds lost 2-1 to Aston Villa on 13 January] is a ‘go-to’ performance. They looked such a threat and have players going forward who have pace and a big skillset.
“We need to be very well organised, and we need to believe in ourselves.
“We are on a good run, and we need to use that confidence. Our attitude is that we are confident but humble.”
The Brentford head coach was also asked about the club’s transfer activity, with deadline day just over a week away.
“I’m very happy with the squad, and very pleased that we did our business early,” Frank responded.
“Kevin Schade is a very good addition to the squad and he is progressing well.
“We are in a good, strong position, but if we find a hidden gem somewhere then hopefully we can go and get the player.”
