Yesterday saw us in action again during the 2022/23 pre-season schedule. Bryan Mbeumo scored again, making him two from two so far.
Over 3,600 fans were in attendance at the Zeppelinstadion, where we lost 2-1 to a last-minute penalty. New signing Thomas Strakosha was watching on from the bench as well. He spoke to us in Germany about how he is settling in, riding a golf buggy down to the training pitch alongside Luke Gregory.
The full squad was rotated at half-time, allowing for more minutes in the legs across the board. Marcus Forss missed out on tour through injury but he was spotted in a Brentford shirt yesterday as the B Team also lost 1-0 to Maidenhead United.
Brentford opened their account after 11 minutes, a sweeping move from back to front that was started by Saman Ghoddos. His pass out of the box was flicked on by Shandon Baptiste, right into the path of Mathias Jensen. The Danish international skipped beyond his marker, drove into the final third and played a sweet pass for Mbeumo to run onto and finish.
The Frenchman’s second goal of pre-season in as many games was tucked beneath Florian Müller’s onrushing figure. It nestled into the bottom left corner.
Head Coach Thomas Frank spoke to us after the game, analysing the attacking play and talking about some of the players who missed out.
"There were a lot of positives, we played two mixed teams again to give all the boys 45 minutes. It was a very warm day and the boys have been trained very hard. They dug deep and produced two performances."
